Aircraft believed resident at Shobdon airfield ( EGBS ) - The airfield is home to an interesting mix of light aircraft, helicopters, gyrocopters and gliders - residents come and go as they get bought and sold so changes will occur.
Shobdon airfield has a large grass viewing area and a cafe with outside tables too - excellent viewing - please do not enter any hangar without express prior permission.
Some aircraft may be only temporary residents, for example at Shobdon for a period of pilot training or maintenance.
The airfield was built during WW2 and was home to 5 Glider Training School, preparing glider pilots for the major airborne assault landings at Normandy and Arnhem among others. Today a large memorial stone ( by the three flagpoles ) serves as a memorial to this wartime activity.
When the weather is fine Shobdon can attract a lot of visiting aircraft with over 30 visitors on a busy day.
